Abhay Karandikar

Brief Bio: Abhay Karandikar obtained his BE in 1986 and MTech and PhD from IIT Kanpur in 1988 and 1995 respectively. Between 1988-89, he worked in Indian Space Research Organization, Ahmedabad. He was Member Technical Staff and Team Coordinator in High Performance Computing Group of Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Pune during 1994-97.
Since 1997, he is working in the department of electrical engineering of IIT Bombay as a faculty member. In IIT Bombay, he led many technological development projects including open source MPLS router. He also Co-founded the venture backed start-up company Eisodus Networks. The company is engaged in developing technology in the area of Metro Ethernet for India and Asia-Pacific markets. Dr Karandikar has supervised many graduate theses and published several papers in national and international journals and conferences. He has consulted extensively for industries in the area of communications network and wireless communications. He has served on technical program committees of many international conferences.
For his technological innovations, he was awarded Dr PK Patwardhan Technology Development award. He has been awarded with IETE’s Prof K Sreenivasan Memorial award. He was also awarded Best Teacher award of IIT Bombay in 2006. His research group is currently focused on cross layer resource allocation in wireless networks and Quality of Service guarantees in Internet.
